The Cheyenne Depot Museum traces local and transcontinental railroad history inside the Historic Union Pacific Depot, built in 1886.

Designed by architect Henry Van Brunt, the depot is described by the museum as a National Historic Landmark and the last remaining grand railroad station on the transcontinental route. Inside, exhibits cover Cheyenne and transcontinental railroad history, including the UC&N model railroad built by Harry W. Brunk.

Regular hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for visitors aged 60 and over, military members, and AAA members, and $5 for ages 13–18. Children 12 and under enter free.

The museum closes on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. Hours also differ on some holidays and during Cheyenne Frontier Days. For current hours and admission details, check the official site before you go.

The Cheyenne Depot Museum is about 40 minutes on foot or about 6 minutes by car from Cheyenne Guest Inn. If you are driving between downtown stops, factor the parking time limits into how long you leave your car near the Depot or Capitol.

For a day built around the Depot Museum, the simplest order is to visit the depot first, then fit the Capitol or another civic stop into the remaining hours. The museum and Capitol both have weekday hours, while the State Museum also opens on Saturdays; check each official site before setting out if your plans depend on opening times.
