What is the Atlas Theatre’s history?

What is the Atlas Theatre’s history?

The Atlas Theatre has served several roles in Cheyenne since the late nineteenth century. Visit Cheyenne says the building was built in 1887, converted into a theatre in 1907 and opened as the Atlas the following year.

The National Park Service’s Downtown Cheyenne Historic District documentation gives different dates: it describes the building as constructed in 1882 and remodeled as a theatre in 1908.

After operating until 1929, the venue reopened as the Strand following a brief closure. It later became the Pink Pony nightclub in 1961, and Cheyenne Little Theatre Players began presenting live theatre there in 1966. The group bought the Atlas in 1971, and it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
